Built for short days and long storms

Alpine winter is the hard case for solar: low sun angle, short days, snow on panels, and storm cycles that can put a week between useful charging opportunities. A system sized for summer conditions fails in February, which is exactly when the checker matters most.

This one is sized against the checker’s actual duty cycle, with reserve to carry weeks without solar input. Pair it with the checker’s Low Power profile and that margin extends further.

Standard connectors

Waterproof detachable connectors — one to the DTS Transceiver Checker, two to the solar panel. No soldering, no custom wiring harnesses, no specialized tools.

Install in the fall, disconnect for end-of-season service, reconnect the next season. Anyone who can use a wrench can do it, in gloves.

One sealed enclosure

Battery, charge controller, and all weatherproof wiring live in a single IP66-rated, lockable enclosure. One object to mount, one thing to secure, nothing exposed.

The Victron controller itself carries an IP43 rating — adequate indoors, nowhere near enough on a post in the Cascades. The enclosure is what makes the assembly weatherproof, which is why it is part of the product rather than something you source yourself.

Add a panel and go

The system takes any standard 50 W or larger solar panel, which you can buy locally rather than waiting on a proprietary part from us. The controller handles the rest: charging the battery, regulating voltage to the checker, and managing low-light periods.

The Victron 75/15 accepts up to 75 V open-circuit and roughly 220 W of panel at 12 V, so there is headroom to oversize for a shaded or north-facing site.

Check it from the parking lot

The SmartSolar controller has Bluetooth built in. With Victron’s free VictronConnect app you can see battery state of charge, charging current, and yield history from your phone, standing next to the installation — no laptop, no opening the enclosure, no cell service required.

Useful on a pre-season check, and more useful when you are trying to work out whether a unit has a power problem or a different problem.
