Hyak Consulting, LLC warrants DTS products against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. This page explains what that covers, what it doesn’t, and how to get a unit repaired or replaced.
Coverage
Three years from the date of shipment, for the original purchaser and any subsequent owner — this warranty transfers with the product.
Coverage includes the complete DTS Transceiver Checker assembly: the enclosure, electronics, cabling, and the BCA DTS Tracker supplied with the unit. The Solar Power System is covered on the same three-year terms, excluding its battery (see below).
If a covered product proves defective during the warranty period, we will repair it, replace it, or refund the purchase price, at our option. Repaired or replaced products carry the remainder of the original warranty period.
Not Covered
Batteries are not covered by this warranty. This includes the CR1220 real-time-clock battery in the Checker (a consumable requiring roughly annual replacement) and the sealed lead-acid battery supplied with the Solar Power System. Batteries are wear items with service lives determined by temperature, cycling, and age.
This warranty also does not cover:
- Improper installation — including unsealed or improperly routed cable entry that allows water into the enclosure
- Electrical damage from lightning, power surge, reversed polarity, or supply voltage outside the specified range
- Physical damage from impact, avalanche, snow loading, falling ice, vandalism, theft, or animals
- Unauthorized modification, disassembly, or repair, or operation with firmware not supplied by us
- Use outside the product’s documented operating conditions or intended purpose
- Cosmetic wear, fading, scratching, or corrosion that does not affect function
- Consumables and normal wear items
- Loss of logged data, or costs of removal, reinstallation, or site access
How to Request Service
- Contact us at support@areyoubeeping.org or through the support request form. Include the product, an approximate purchase or installation date, and a description of the problem — photos of the installation are genuinely helpful.
- We will troubleshoot with you first. Many issues turn out to be configuration, power, or firmware and can be resolved in the field without shipping anything.
- If the unit needs to come back, we will issue an RMA number and a shipping address. Please do not send a unit without one; unmarked returns are difficult to match to their owner.
- Pack the unit securely and mark the RMA number clearly on the outside of the package.
- We will inspect the unit, tell you what we found, and repair, replace, or return it.
Shipping is the customer’s responsibility in both directions, including any customs duties, taxes, or brokerage fees on international shipments. We recommend a trackable service; we cannot be responsible for units lost or damaged in transit to us.
Out-of-Warranty Repair
We repair out-of-warranty units. Contact us the same way and we will quote the work before starting. Because these are products we design and build ourselves, we can usually repair a unit rather than replace it — and we would rather see one come back for service than get thrown away.
Battery replacement, whether inside or outside the warranty period, is handled as a normal service item.
Limitations
This warranty is the sole and exclusive warranty for DTS products, and it replaces all other warranties, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose; where such warranties cannot be disclaimed, they are limited in duration to the warranty period stated above.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our liability under this warranty is limited to repair, replacement, or refund of the purchase price, and we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
Some jurisdictions do not allow limits on implied warranties or the exclusion of certain damages, so parts of the above may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary by jurisdiction. If you purchased as a consumer in the European Union or United Kingdom, your statutory rights against the seller are unaffected by this warranty.
A Note on What This Product Is
A transceiver checker confirms that a transmitting avalanche transceiver was detected as someone passed the unit. It does not verify that a transceiver is fully functional, correctly worn, adequately powered, or that its user is prepared for avalanche terrain. No warranty on this equipment is a warranty of anyone’s safety. See our Terms of Use.
